Ingrid Newkirk 'batty...and certifiably insane'

US R&B SINGER KELIS has savaged both PETA and its founder Ingrid Newkirk after receiving a stinging letter from the lobby for the sin of wearing a fur hat.
The drama ignited the other week after the popular singer was spotted by the group wearing a tall Russian-style fur hat she labeled one of her favorites due to its ‘Cruella de Vil’ vibe.
The militant lobby then duly sent a harrassing letter.
But the singer hit out on her myspace blog speaking candidly on her feelings about the lobby's vegan agenda and its nutty founder Ingrid E Newkirk.
- On PETA’s founder Ingrid Newkirk she states “She is completely batty…I mean certifiably insane!” Kelis takes issue with the fact that Newkirk is a diabetic who requires insulin (which is derived from laboratory pigs), suggesting that she is hypocritical since she champions animal rights and attacks animal abuse, except when “it can help” her.
- On the animal rights organization choosing to use her as an example: “If u want to preach, do it about something worthwhile — don’t waste my time trying to save the dang chipmunk.”
- On her appreciation for fur: “It’s not just the look of fur. It’s warm as hell and feels glorious.” Kelis says that faux fur can’t compare, claiming that there’s “nothing luxurious about that.”
- Regarding endangered animals, she says that she does “believe in the preservation of endangered species” and would totally understand PETA attacking her for wearing polar bear or orangutan fur, but explains that the animals she chooses to wear – such as chinchilla and mink – are commonly available rodents that she “would demand they be put to death anyway.”
- On her meat-eating lifestyle: “I eat meat, and in fact my mouth salivates as I type the word meat!”

Oh dear, it seems that Kelis, along with numerous other people is sadly misinformed about Ingrid Newkirk being a diabetic. She is not, no she doesn't use any insulin.
It is Mary Beth Sweetland, who used to be vice president who is the diabetic insulin user.
Sweetland left peta several years ago after she and Newkirk had a falling out, no doubt about the cry of hypocrite that peta was constantly having to deal with.
Sweetland now works for H$U$ as director for something or other (sorry, I forget) having spent the interim with the Animals Defense League.
