In PETA’s Own Words
PETA likes to present itself as a defender of animals. But its outlandish campaigns, bogus science, and extreme statements reveal its real interest: to generate headlines that raise money to pay for the salaries of those at the top.
In PETA’s own words: 10 PETA campaigns:
- PETA campaign comparing farming to the Holocaust – “We’re asking people to recognise that what Jews and others went through in the Holocaust is what animals go through every day in factory farms.” – PETA’s Assistant Director of Factory Farming Campaigns, Matt Prescott.
- PETA campaign pretending that there is a link between cows milk and autism – “Anyone who wants to alleviate the effects of autism should try giving cow’s milk the boot and switch to healthy vegan alternatives instead.” – from PETA’s ‘Got Autism?’ campaign.
- PETA statement comparing an animal charity to the Ku Klux Klan – “Like the Klan, dog breeders who subscribe to the AKC standards are all about the sanctity of ‘pure bloodlines’.” – From a PETA brochure comparing the American Kennel Club to the Ku Klux Klan.
- PETA interview proposing that women go on a sex strike against men – “PETA’s proposing a strike on sex with meat-eating men to persuade them to go vegan.” – PETA Sex Strike proposal.
- PETA campaign comparing zoos to the slave trade – “When you buy a ticket to our local zoo or aquarium, you are an active participant in this modern day slave trade” – PETA campaign against the existence of animals in zoos.
- PETA blog opposing the use of guide dogs for the blind – “Guide-dog breeders take homes away from dogs in animal shelters… and contribute to the animal overpopulation crisis.” – “Guide dogs? There’s an app for that”- PETA blog.
- PETA statement opposing pet ownership – “This speciesist worldview, which using words like “pet” and “owner” helps perpetuate, is part of the reason why some people think nothing of acquiring a dog in the same way they would get a fancy handbag” – PETA article ‘The Problem With ‘Pet’.
- PETA statement arguing that sheep shearing is cruel – “The production of all wool spells extreme suffering and a terrifying death for millions of sheep and lambs.” – PETA opinion on animals providing wool for humans.
- PETA campaign for a ban on fishing – “Imagine that a man dangles a piece of candy in front of you. As you grab the candy, a huge metal hook stabs through your hand and you’re ripped off the ground.” – Comic book designed for children called “Your Daddy Kills Animals”.
The truth
What PETA really thinks
Our aim is to shine a light on the outlandish activities and unscientific claims made by unqualified activists of the animal protest group, PETA.
Our campaign will reveal the truth behind PETA’s claims, debunk its fake science, and encourage donors to support other worthwhile animal causes instead.
